Summerfield Upper Grades and High School Teachers
Are you idealistic and passionate in your initiatives? Do you find joy in seeing young people emerge? Can you see the value of discipline both inner and outer in achieving depth? Are you committed to nurturing culture? To deepening your understanding of child development in its soul/spiritual aspects?
Summerfield high school is seeking to expand its core of capable, vibrant colleagues dedicated to carrying this Waldorf school into the future. We are unique in practicing a collaborative teacher-led governance as means of fully embodying our commitment to this education’s that “takes spirituality seriously”. Our unique campus for Early Childhood-Grade 12, encompassing a biodynamic farm and nature preserve, provide a context for forming meaningful cultural and educational experiences. Our focus on the practical and fine arts in the high school as a means for developing thinking remains firm and is evidenced in the new art/tech building.
Today, we find ourselves in a time of transition, we are redefining the boundary of Lower School and High School with a team approach to grades 7-8. Classes 11 and 12 need further opportunities for individuation and new approaches to meeting the world. We invite colleagues who are young at heart, willing to work collaboratively and share responsibility for forming a vessel for encounter with adolescents. These colleagues must be flexible, able to work with an organization that is constantly “becoming”.
Teachers must have proven expertise in one or more of these areas, and an ability to teach in more than one discipline is preferred: Mathematics, Science, Sculptural Arts, Metal Working, Woodworking, Fine Arts, Movement, Spanish and Music.

About Summerfield Waldorf School & Farm:
Summerfield spans all of childhood, preschool through twelfth grade. Sprawling over 38 acres, we have one of the most extensive Waldorf programs on the continent including a fully operational Biodynamic farm and a vibrant circus program. We make every effort to educate the whole child in practical arts, movement, agriculture, social inclusion, artistic work, and a rich festival life. Our students love coming to school every day as much as their teachers do!
The school (est. 1974) is located in beautiful Sonoma County, just 60 miles north of San Francisco. We enjoy an idyllic Mediterranean climate with spring-time fields of wild flowers, hot summers cooled by ocean fog, rich autumn light on vibrant harvest colors, and wet, green winters. Sonoma County is home to ancient redwood forests, stands of mighty oak, and scenic, rugged coastlines.
Picturesque orchards, vineyards, and dairies abound. Many of our hills and mountains are still truly wild and offer hikers and bikers miles of trails to explore. Sonoma County has also become a haven for food enthusiasts, offering some of the best restaurants and wines in the world. Many local farmers are using organic and Biodynamic methods, with their bounties found in our markets and restaurants. This is the setting our students and families enjoy!
