Summerfield Waldorf School & Farm is one of the few Waldorf schools in North America with a full circus arts program. We are also fortunate enough to have our very own European big-top circus tent! This fun and fantastic program is lead by Sieglinde and Don Basmajian, both experienced Waldorf and circus arts instructors.
Summerfield students in grades three through eight participate in circus arts classes as part of the physical education program during part of the school year. Students learn circus skills including juggling, clowning, tumbling, trapeze, aerial and more. They also prepare for and perform all the skills they learn in a Circus Show in the Spring.
Additionally, Circus Waldissima offers after-school circus classes through our Circus Club program, which are open to the public. Classes include, Circus Skills, Mixed Aerial Arts, Unicycle, Juggling and Tumbling. We also have an advanced performance group, Cabaret, who put together their own Spring show along with professional circus arts guest performers. There are two sessions of Circus Club during the school year: Fall Session runs from September through December concluding with a performance at Summerfield’s Winter Faire, and Spring Session runs from January through March, concluding with our big Circus Weekend Spring Extravaganza.
