Lower School Coordinator
Are you an excellent, experienced lower school Waldorf teacher who has served on school governance groups? Do you have flexibility, experience with collaborative decision making, strong written and verbal communication as well as deep listening skills? Are you interested in learning about and adapting to our unique culture? Can you command respect from parents, teachers and students? Are you able to say no? Can you take direction and lead at the same time, enlisting the participation of others before making decisions, yet still making sure that the work that needs to be done gets accomplished? Can you see our whole school vision and execute the job duties in accordance with that vision? Are you a team-builder, imaginative, practical, organized and interested in the world and people? Are you committed to the inner work required of a teacher?
We have 360 students aged 3-18, a biodynamic farm, a nature preserve, a new Art/Tech facility. We are poised to find the new forms of education needed to meet today’s children. As a privately-funded ECE-12 Waldorf school, we recently renewed our commitment to faculty-led governance. We have full freedom to act in the constant forming of a culture of initiative and mutual support towards our school’s mission:
Based on a developmental understanding of the learning process and a view of the child that takes human spirituality seriously, Summerfield Waldorf School offers students a comprehensive learning environment designed to challenge and support them in strengthening their cognitive, emotional and intentional abilities. We strive to support the growth of social awareness and active tolerance, and give students the experiential background that they need to meet new challenges in a creative and responsible manner.
The creation of this teaching/learning culture requires bold individuals with passion and courage. We recognize that this is not a job, but a life path.
We are looking for a Lower School Coordinator to work with our Lower School Core Group and faculty. The ideal candidate is currently a Waldorf lower school teacher, and would be interested in both teaching in an area of demonstrated expertise and being a coordinator as a 50/50 split. If this speaks to you, please send a cover letter, resume and three references who have worked with you and seen you teach to our Human Resources Coordinator Michelle Bovard: michelle@summerfieldwaldorf.org.
Career administrators need not apply — we are committed to self-governance by active teachers who are imbued with enthusiasm and excited about the ideals and possibilities of Waldorf education at its finest.
