Office Manager/Receptionist

Summerfield Waldorf School & Farm is seeking an Office Manager/Receptionist for our busy main office. The successful candidate will possess a calm, courteous presence at the front desk; have flexibility in performing a number of tasks in an efficient and organized manner; and be able to work well with children, parents, faculty and staff.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Receiving and assisting parents, children and staff.
  • Answering telephone calls, taking messages, and managing the voicemail system.
  • Ringing school bell at beginning & end of class periods.
  • Providing basic first aid and care for lower school students.
  • Writing tardy slips and entering attendance in the school database.
  • Managing lunch registration in the school database.
  • Making copies for teachers and students.
  • Managing incoming and outgoing mail, and maintaining faculty and staff mailboxes.
  • Scheduling rooms, calendaring, and maintaining faculty and staff contact list.
  • Ordering and organizing office supplies.
  • Managing small school store sales, maintenance, and inventory.
  • Providing administrative support for the lower school field trips and the Director among other miscellaneous tasks.

Qualifications: The candidate must be organized and able to balance/prioritize many competing tasks. Is highly competent and at-ease with computer/software/cloud use to manage information. Is able to maintain regular and prompt attendance in the workplace. Is diplomatic, flexible and empathetic. Has personal credibility/trustworthiness. Is discrete and will maintain confidentiality. Has two (2)-plus years administrative experience.

Preferred Attributes and Skills: Has a strong belief in the mission, vision, and goals of Summerfield Waldorf School and Farm and the philosophy of Waldorf education. College degree preferred.

Employment details:  This is a year-round, non-exempt, hourly position. Office hours are 7:50 am-3:30 pm (mid-August through mid-June) and 9am-1pm in the summer.

Rate of Pay and Benefits:  The hourly rate is $22-$30 depending on experience. Summerfield offers excellent benefits, including generous healthcare, up to three weeks of vacation, and one paid week off for both the winter and spring holidays.

Physical requirements: Must be able to operate a keyboard and mouse, use a telephone head or handset, have visual acuity, be able to sit, walk, stand, bend crouch and stoop for extended periods of time. Reach overhead, grasp, push/pull up to 35 pounds for short distances. Lift and carry up to 45 lbs at waist height for short distances.
