High School Counselor

Summerfield Waldorf High School is seeking a full-time school counselor to join our faculty. The primary work of the High School Counselor is to support colleagues in their work with the students, to support the students in their journey at Summerfield, and to be a soundboard for parents/guardians, directing them to the right people, as necessary. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Work with the High School Core Group, Mentors, Class Advisors and teachers to support student success. 
  • Support students with academic challenges by developing and overseeing implementation of Individual Learning Plans; meet with students, mentors and parents as needed to review progress of academic plans; coordinate with College Counselor for any accommodations for college testing. 
  • Support students with emotional and social challenges and offer referrals for long term support outside of school when necessary
  • Serve as a portal for parent concerns. 
  • Form and coordinate the Life Skills education program. 
  • Oversee and work collaboratively with the College Counselor, and support the Exchange program. 
  • Oversee and monitor UC requirements and track student credits and classes in order to meet graduation and college requirements. 
  • Support transitions from Lower School to High School, and from High School to college and vocational programs. 
  • Oversee interviews and final recommendations on prospective students. 
  • Work with the school registrar to review grades at the end of each trimester. 
  • Position will require some evening and weekend dates for specific events. 

Physical Requirements for Employees at SWSF:

Summerfield is both a school and farm. Though we do have paved pathways between various buildings, many pathways are unpaved and rough. Some have steep inclines and declines, steps and holes.

Employees must have the ability to:

  • Navigate uneven terrain for extended periods of time.
  • Sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Squat, stoop and/or bend over.
  • Reach overhead, grasp, push/pull up to 35 pounds for short distances.
  • Lift and carry up to 45 lbs. at waist height for short distances.

Qualifications:

  • A BA/BS
  • Certification or training in Waldorf education or counseling is desirable.
  • Certification or training in using databases and managing transcripts.
  • Certification or experience of 2+ years in college or academic counseling work is a plus.
  • Experience with UC/CSU A-G list is a plus.
  • Interest and experience in a Waldorf school community and in working with high school aged students in an academic environment.

Salary and Benefits

This is an exempt salaried position. The salary is $60,000-$70,000, depending on experience. We offer an excellent benefits package including medical and dental coverage, long-term disability insurance, a 401(k) retirement plan, and 90% tuition remission for qualified students.

Employment details

During the school year (mid-August through mid-June ) this is a  full-time position; Monday through Friday, plus evening and weekend meetings and events as appropriate during the school year.  Summer hours are flexible and should be arranged with the supervisor.
